Jane Keziah Obituary

Mar 11, 1928 - Jan 04, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Jane Horne Keziah CHARLOTTE - Jane Horne Keziah died peacefully on November 4, 2017, at Sharon Towers in Charlotte, NC, at the age of 89. She was born on March 11, 1928, to Oren C. Horne and Mollie Golden Horne in New Orleans, LA. Jane moved to Charlotte as a teenager and graduated from Central High School. She attended Woman's College in Greensboro, NC (now UNC-G), until her marriage to Daniel S. Ray, III, with whom she had five children. Jane was an active member of Myers Park Presbyterian, Forest Hill Presbyterian, and Sardis Presbyterian churches, where she volunteered much of her time in many capacities with community projects as well as all aspects of service to her church homes. Jane was one of the first women in the country selected to be a deacon in the Presbyterian Church. Jane is remembered for her cheerful, fun-loving nature as a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Each day was a new adventure as Jane enjoyed her travels through life as well as her years of motor coach trips crossing the country with husband Spurgeon. She and Spurgeon also shared the joy of square dancing and travelling with the Sardis Stars. Jane was predeceased by her parents; by her sister Kathryn Horne Walker; by her second husband, Spurgeon Keziah; and by her grandson, Richard Dimmette, III. Jane is survived by her five children, a special niece, four grandchildren, Richard's wife, three step grandchildren, and two great grandchildren: children Michael Ray (wife Guanming Ray); Julia Ray Dimmette (husband Richard Dimmette, Jr.); David Ray (wife Deana Ray); Donald Ray; Stephen Ray (wife Stephanie Ray); niece Linda LaFrance; grandchildren Matthew Ray, Benjamin Ray, John Ray and Jennifer Ray; Richard's wife Hong Dimmette; step grandchildren James Craig (wife Heather Craig), Oliver Ni, and Preston Ni; and great grandchildren David Ray and Michael Ray. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dee Holmes of "Visiting Angels," who cared for Jane and was by her side until her final day, to Hospice, and for their care and friendship to the staff and residents of Sharon Towers, where Jane made her home for the past several years. The family will receive friends at Sardis Presbyterian Church at 1:30 pm on November 10, to be followed there by a memorial service at 2 pm, and burial at Sharon Memorial Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. Memorial gifts may be made to Sardis Presbyterian Church.
