This obituary is administered by:
Jane Lamar MooreJane Lamar Moore was born on May 8, 1928 to Percie and Florence Lamar. She was the youngest of five children, Percie Lee, Elsie (Chisholm), Elizabeth (Taylor), and John, who filled a loving home in Lambert, MS. The Delta agreed with her and she grew up strong, smart and beautiful. Her quick mind allowed her to graduate a year early from high school and join her dear sister, Elizabeth at the Mississippi College for Women. After two years there, she transferred to Ole Miss, where she quickly became a campus favorite. Being a member of Phi Mu Sorority and a campus beauty, it wasn't long before she had a long list of admirers, none as persistent as Hugh Moore. She graduated from Ole Miss and began a career as a columnist and educator for the Tennessee Valley Authority. The distance did not deter Hugh who eventually won her heart and convinced her to begin a new life with him.Jane and Hugh moved to Jackson where they began their family. While Hugh embarked on his career, Jane built a warm and loving home for her children and became involved in local charities. In 1958, the family moved to the coast, finally settling in Pascagoula. Jane loved the coast and quickly became involved in her church, Sacred Heart, and her community. Giving was always a big part of her life as she generously gave of her time and heart to organizations such as the Gray Ladies, who cared for sick children, and PEO, who awarded scholarships. She was also a founding member of the Junior Auxiliary and the 20th Century Club in Pascagoula. Jane was a willing volunteer at ball fields, fair booths, and numerous church and school events for many years. She was known for being strong for others. She was the first person at the door when anyone needed a shoulder to cry on or a crisis handled. As the children became more independent, Jane fulfilled a dream she had to open her own business with her dear friend Joy McGregor. These two entrepreneurs ran a successful clothing business called "Wit's End" for many years in Pascagoula. Fashion, friends and coffee flowed in their little shop on Market Street.Jane was a gracious Southern lady who embodied the true meaning of being a Christian. She was the heart of a family of five children, who depended on her wise, no-nonsense advice. She taught her children by example and deed the importance of giving and self-sacrifice. Her belief in God and His teachings never wavered. In an age of intolerance, she taught her children to embrace diversity. Jane had strong opinions about right and wrong and was not afraid to stand up for those less fortunate or maligned. She had a life filled with purpose.Jane welcomed her first grandchild in 1983 and loved the role so much that she continued until she had a dozen adoring grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She continued to teach and model manners, grace and the importance of family to these children who she was so proud to call her own.Alzheimer's disease has never met a stronger foe than Jane Moore. She bravely fought the disease with every fiber of her being, continuing to teach her children and grandchildren the meaning of strength and kindness. People who never knew her before Alzheimer's were amazed at her sense of humor and her kindness to those around her while she struggled with this disease. She never gave up. She died on May 25, 2017 at age 89.She will be greatly missed by her children, Mike (Tisha), Wilson (Kay), Jane Pickett (Jack) Lisa Ash and Scott Ash and Kelly Hanning (Franz) grandchildren Kyle (Ashley) Moore, Wil Moore, Rachel Moore, Abby Moore, Benjamin Moore, Jackson Pickett, Alex Pickett, Kaitlyn Pickett, Colin Ash, Evan Ash, Olivia Hanning and Tyson Hanning, and great grandchildren, Stone and Indie Moore, her devoted brother in law Ben Moore and wife, Anne, as well as many well-loved relatives and friends.Visitation will be held at the O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 5:00-7:00.
