This obituary is administered by:
DAVIS, Jane RiversDecember 28, 1949 -November 3, 2016Jane Rivers Davis, 66, of Sinton, Texas, born and raised in Elgin, Texas, died on November 3, 2016, in Houston, Texas.Memorial services will be conducted on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 11:00 am, at Sinton Presbyterian Church in Sinton, Texas, with Pastor Sonja Dalglish officiating. The family plans to have a celebration of Jane's life in Elgin, Texas, at a later date, for family and friends. Jane was born on December 28, 1949, in Austin, Texas, and grew up in Elgin, Texas. Upon graduation from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Early Childhood Education, Jane taught elementary school for a year in Elgin. After getting married she taught for a number of years in several towns in Texas, however, her last 18 years in Refugio, Texas, where she first met her dear, caring friend, Jan Wright. Jane worked as a 7/8 reading teacher in the Refugio I.S.D. from 1993-2001. From 2001 until her retirement in 2011, she was in charge of the Reading Lab for Refugio Middle School. She was certified as a Master Reading teacher. The students of Refugio I.S.D. were blessed to have her serve them for 18 years. After moving to Edna (one of the 5 towns in which she and her family lived) she was blessed with two of the loves of her life, her son, Will Rivers Davis and Betsy Davis Slemmons, and then five years ago, her identical twin grandsons, Castin and Major. Jane was a member Sinton Presbyterian Church. She loved her church dearly and served it faithfully. She was dearly loved and respected by the members of the church, as well as the pastors who served the church throughout the years. Jane, in her quiet unassuming manner, accomplished so much and was accomplished in so many ways during her short life of 66 years. Her love and dedication were in the following order: Her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her family, and then her teaching, golf and painting-her last three loves not necessarily in that order. She was both an accomplished golfer and artist. Most amateur golfers dream of having a "hole in one" at some point in their life. Jane had three "holes in one" - simply amazing. She loved traveling around Texas and even to several other states in the Southern US, playing different golf courses with her wonderful golfing buddy, Judy Latran, of close to 15 years. Jane's artwork hangs on the walls, and sits on the coffee tables and end tables of all of her family members, cousins, and friends all over Texas. Her favorite art mediums were colored pencils and watercolor. All species of birds were her specialty, especially Gulf Coast birds. Jane is preceded in death by her parents, William Howard and Betty Timblin Rivers, and her former husband, Larry Lee Davis. She is survived by her two sisters, Rebecca Rivers Kieschnick of Sinton, Texas, and Ruth Rivers Grady of Cypress, Texas, and her brother, William Edward Rivers of Elgin Texas, as well as two children, Will Rivers Davis of Rockport, Texas, and Betsy Davis Slemmons and her husband, Jeremy Slemmons of Kyle, Texas, and their twin sons, Castin and Major, and also her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Jane Davis. In addition, Jane is survived by her nephew, William Howard Rivers, and her nieces, Jo Timblin Bruno, Sarah Rathbun Pyles, Jill Williams Neuhaus, Lauren Rathbun Koenig, Kate Rivers, Ellyn Rivers, Rebecca Rivers and Toye Davis, as well as numerous great nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Jane be made to either Sinton Presbyterian Church, 221 W. Merriman Street, Sinton, Texas 78387 or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (

In addition to Jane's unbelievably caring physician, Dr. Zatakia of Baylor College of Medicine, and the amazing staff on the 7th floor ICU at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, the family wishes to offer special gratitude and love to Jane's older sister, Rebecca, for her loving care over the last 20 years and Rebecca's son-in-law, Pastor Ryan Neuhaus, for his support and guidance during this difficult time, as well as to the deeply devoted friend of both Jane and Rebecca, Eileen Troup, who has been, over the years, more of a sister to both of them, than merely a wonderful friend.
