Janet F. Armstead 1936 - 2016Janet F. Armstead, 80, of Springfield, passed away at 12:47 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at St. Joseph's Home after a brief battle with cancer. Janet was born on June 10, 1936 in Springfield, the daughter of Emaline F. Casey. She married Thomas Armstead on March 21, 1954; he preceded her in death. Janet was a 1954 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She retired from St. John's Hospital after 20 years. Janet was an active member of The Cascades retirement community in Sarasota, FL. She was also formerly a St. John's Hospital volunteer. Janet was a happy, energetic person, who was always there for her family. She enjoyed the beach, spending time with her family, listening to music, playing racquetball, attending an occasional happy hour, and playing slot machines. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, John Thomas Armstead. She is survived by her five children, Barb (husband, Tim) Call of Springfield, Linda (husband, John) Kulek of Petersburg, Karrie (husband, Brad) Long of Rochester, Mike (wife, Therese) Armstead of Rochester, MN, and John Armstead of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Jack (wife, Pam) Casey of Springfield and Lynn (husband, Ron) Robak of Talent, OR; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Funeral Mass: 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield with Rev. Joseph Ring, celebrant. The family will host a Celebration of Life following ceremonies from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m. at the west KC Hall, 2200 South Meadowbrook Rd., Springfield.
