Janet Jones Perkins passed away on Nov. 11, 2016 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. She had cardiac surgery and then a stroke at Christ Hospital on Nov. 1.
Janet was born on Aug. 20, 1935 to William H. and Cecile M. Jones and was a lifelong resident of Wilmington. She attended Wilmington City Schools and Wilmington College and she was a member of the Delta Omega Theta sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lennis E. Perkins; daughter, Lynette Perkins Schoeck (Robert) of Knoxville Tennessee; grandson, Bradley R Schoeck of Indianapolis; and twin brother James D. Jones (Karol) of Wilmingto; also, niece Judy Fizer and nephews Mike Jones and Gary Jones all of Wilmington.
She greatly enjoyed her volunteer work and playing golf and bridge, gardening, sewing, shopping and her grand-dogs Charlie, Vern, Bandit and Smokey. Janet loved going to her home in Tennessee to visit and play golf. She had many good friends because she always had a smile on her face and was up for any adventure. She was always young at heart and never felt like she was 81 years of age!
Janet was a member of the First Christian Church. In 2014 and 2015 she was President of the Clinton County Health Alliance and for 23 years she was Executive Secretary of the Clinton County United Way. She was past President of the Young Mother's Club & Clinton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was active in organizing the Health Alliance Holiday Ball, Book and Jewelry sales.
Janet was very involved in the alumni reunions of the Wilmington High School Class of 1953. Throughout the years, she was employed at the Clinton County National Bank, H&R Block and P & M Camera Corner and was the owner of Simply Nails & Tanning.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 19 at the First Christian Church, 120 Columbus St., Wilmington. Reverend Dr. Tom Stephenson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at noon.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Christian Church of Wilmington (937-382-2251, www.wilmingtondisciples.com) or to CASA Monroe (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Madisonville, Tennessee (301 N. College St., Madisonville, TN 37354, 423-442-2750, www.casamonroe.org).
Her family and friends will miss her spunkiness, big smile and laughter. She had the attitude of a much younger woman and we will always remember the times that she would laugh so hard that she would have tears running down her face. Her presence will always be with us!
The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Tom Stephenson and the doctors and nurses of Christ Hospital for their wonderful care and support during this trying time.
