PORTLAND - Janet Yvette Cyr Verrier of Portland, formerly of Biddeford, died April 11, 2016, in Portland.Janet was born on May 5, 1932, in Keegan (Aroostook County), and was one of 11 children of the late Patrick O. Cyr and Marie Dubay Cyr. She was educated in Van Buren schools, and completed her education in Biddeford.Janet worked at Fishman's 5 & 10 store, and went on to work at West Point Pepperell for 37 years. She was a longtime union activist and shop steward. Janet was an entrepreneur, and her Tupperware parties were legendary. She also sold Avon and Stanley.Janet met and wed Raymond O. Verrier in 1948, and they were married 63 years before Raymond died in 2011. The couple were avid campers who spent 15 summers and falls at Sebago Lake State Park. Before that, they camped in New York state, Canada, Baxter State Park and several other state and private camping areas, often visited by family and friends.They left Biddeford in 2000 to live in Fairfield. In 2014, Janet moved to the Barron Center in Portland, where she made many friends and enjoyed the activities and staff. Special thanks to Fred and Sandra on 2 South, who helped take care of Janet, and to all the other wonderful people who touched her life.The family would also like to thank doctors Berg and Anderson, the E.R. Staff, and P3CD for taking care of their mom.Besides her husband, Janet was preceded in death by: a daughter-in-law, Constance A. Verrier; a son-in-law, Robert Parenteau; and nine siblings.She is survived by: her children and their partners, John R. Verrier and Barbara Bailey of Fairfield, Constance V. Parenteau and Paul Maloney of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and Debra V. Barry and husband William David Barry of Portland; three grandchildren, Jennifer Leach, Jay Verrier and his wife Erika Roderick Verrier, and Raymond R. Parenteau, USN; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Leach, Dylan Leach, Stella A. Verrier and Simon J. Verrier; a brother, Gerald Cyr of Old Orchard Beach; a goddaughter, Patricia Goldrup of Saco; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friend, Annette Rowe of Fairfield.There will be no visiting hours. A funeral and burial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 27, at Laurel Hill Cemetery Urn Garden in Saco. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford.
