YORK Janice Dorothy Shaffer (Sammon), formerly of York, passed away after a lengthy illness at her daughter's home on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. She was 76. Janice was born on August 26, 1938, to the late Harold F. Sammon and the late Dorothy Finney Knott in Philadelphia. Janice located to York in 1953 and attended William Penn High School. She worked as Vice President at Warner's Motor Express, Red Lion, for 30 years. Upon retirement, she and her husband Donald L. Shaffer moved to Clearwater, Fla. Janice was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and spending time at the beach. But most of all, she loved her family. Janice is survived by her husband, Donald, to whom she was married for 36 years; two sons, Ronald H. Biser and wife Donna of York, and Ted L. Biser of Plano, Texas; a daughter, JoAnn D. Smith of York; two stepsons, Chad Shaffer and wife Dee of Lebanon, and Rick Shaffer and wife Bonnie of Hanover; one sister, Barbara Myers and husband Richard of Clearwater, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jason Biser, Aaron Biser, Shannon Biser, Jay Smith, Cheyenne Shaffer and Nathanial Shaffer; four great-grandchildren, Kaylin Blocher, Adalyn Biser, Lilyana Biser and Joshua Kochitis. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, April 18 at 26 S. Findlay St., York, between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. In appreciation for the loving care and support received, memorial contributions may be made to Caring Hospice, 101 Good Drive, 1st floor, Lancaster PA 17603.
