Janice L. Miesel Obituary

Oct 12, 1930 - Jan 17, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Janice L. Miesel GREENBAY (Formerly of Racine) - Janice L. Miesel, age 85, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. The daughter of Harold and Violet Brown, Jan was born on October 12, 1930 in Randolph, New York. She attended Randolph public schools and graduated from Randolph High School in 1947. She then attended Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, graduating at the top of her class. While at Bryan College, Jan met John Miesel from Racine, Wisconsin. They married between semesters on December 23, 1953. By that time, both John and Jan had accepted Christ as their personal savior and were committed to a lifetime work serving Him. After graduation, John attended seminary in Warsaw, Indiana. After seminary and setting a course in foreign missions, John and Jan began a long affiliation with Unevangelized Fields Mission (UFM/Crossworld). Their foreign missions service took them to Belgium for language training, the Belgian Congo for five years (during which they were evacuated several times during the Simba uprising) and, finally, France for eleven years. In 1975, John and Jan returned to the U.S. to serve on staff at UFM’s headquarters in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. In later years, they lived in Indiana and Racine where John served in various pastorships until retirement. Jan was known as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a faithful prayer warrior to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She led Bible studies for women of all faiths. Her knowledge of scripture and wisdom in applying that knowledge was reflected in her daily living. Though never seeking recognition, she touched lives wherever God placed her. Jan had a servant’s heart and many gifts, especially the gift of hospitality. During her time in France, she prepared and served countless meals to anyone in need. Jan is survived by her husband, John; children: Brenda (Robert) Pfeil, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Bryan (Carrie LaPlant) Miesel, Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren: Kristie Pfeil, Kathleen (Daniel) Weisman, Taylor (Jamie) Miesel, Connor Miesel and Ariane Miesel. A great grandchild, Liam Weisman, was born last September. She is further survived by sisters: Nancy (Warren) Burnside and Mary Rublee; brothers: Ralph, Maurice (Carol) and Curt (Leslie); sister-in-law, Kae (Arden) Kiehlbauch, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and in-laws, Jan was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Richard Bohall, sister-in-law Alice Brown and sister-in-law Carole Miesel, as well as extended family members. Family and friends may visit at Racine Bible Church, 12505 Spring Street, Sturtevant, Wisconsin from 9:30AM to 11:00AM on Monday, February 22, 2016. A celebration of Jan’s life will begin at 11:00AM with Pastor Brian Kult of Bethel Baptist Church, Green Bay, officiating. A burial service will be held at 2:30PM at West Lawn Memorial Park in Racine. Wilson Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jan’s honor to Crossworld, 10000 N. Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64155.
