It is with great sadness we announce that Janice Marie Washington, our dear mother, friend, and partner, passed away on June 19, 2019. She was diagnosed in August with pancreatic cancer and fought a strong and courageous battle until the end.
Janice grew up in Baton Rouge and raised her children, Jason and Katie, in Port Allen, LA. She was a passionate person and put all her energy into things that meant the most to her. She was involved in every aspect of raising her children: Her welcoming, compassionate, and witty personality drew people to her. She would become instant friends with anyone she met, and made genuine connections with people from all walks of life.
She was wise beyond her years but also had a young heart, which allowed her to draw friendships with people of all ages. Janice lived a modest and humble lifestyle, and focused her life on serving others. She went above and beyond to help her parents in their later years, and would always volunteer to help anyone in need. It is no surprise that people considered her as a second mother, a sister, and a best friend.
Her commitment to living her life on her own terms was admirable; she always beat to the rhythm of her own drum and did things on her own time. During her brief illness, she showed extreme bravery, and her family believes she found enlightenment. Her practice not only carried her through her living life but prepared her for the transition through death and into her next life. She is survived by her children Jason and Katie Washington; sisters Diane Freeman and Dorothy Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by mother Beatrice Prelow; sister Annie Prelow; brother Anthony Prelow; father James Jones
The family wants to thank everyone for the outpouring of support, prayers, and thoughts during this difficult time, your kindness and thoughts are greatly appreciated .
