Dec 03, 1937 - Dec 15, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
SHOFFNER, Janis Keith Janis Keith Shoffner passed away peacefully on December 15, 2016, surrounded by family, after a valiant three year battle with breast cancer. Janis was born on December 3, 1937 in Port Arthur, TX to Judge Quentin and "Peachie" Keith and spent her childhood in Beaumont, TX. After graduating from Beaumont High School in 1955, Janis attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was a varsity football cheerleader and an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. It was during college that Janis met her husband of 52 years, Jim Shoffner, while he was employed with Dupont in nearby Orange, TX. His career, and their love for new and exciting family adventures, took them to Wilmington, DE, Baton Rouge, LA, Atlanta, GA, Lookout Mountain, TN and Hilton Head Island, SC during the course of their 52 years together. Janis was a devoted Christian with a love and gift of serving others; mostly her family, but also the countless friends she made everywhere she lived. She was an interior designer by trade, operating three boutique retail stores through the years and lending her impeccable decorating tastes and skills to clients and friends alike. She was also a faithful volunteer, mostly in her church and also across the communities where she lived. An accomplished cook, her family, friends and, most recently, the Wednesday Night Dinner attendees at First Baptist Church in Hilton Head were all served her signature dishes garnished with her beautiful smile and contagious laugh. Janis is survived by her four children: Jay (Denver, CO), John (Cynthia, Charlotte, NC), Jan (Tory, Lookout Mountain, GA) and Jill (Atlanta, GA); and nine grandchildren: Ryan and Hayden Shoffner; Hill (Virginia), Ben and Jan Johnston; and John, Jake, Jackson and Joe Egan. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim and her brother, Bob Keith of Marble Falls, TX. There will be a Celebration of Life memorial service at First Baptist Church in Hilton Head Island, SC on Sunday, December 18th at 2 PM, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. The family requests memorial gifts in memory of Janis be made to First Baptist Church of Hilton Head Island, 100 South Forest Beach Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928.
