INDIANAPOLIS — The "Nice'n Guy In Town" has left town … Jason Lee Outland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Allisonville Meadows Rehabilitation Center. He was 80 years old. Jason was born on March 16, 1935, in Paulding, Ohio, the only child of Noel and Eunice (Gordon) Outland. After graduating from Paulding High School, he earned a B.A. in Education from Miami University of Ohio in 1960 and then taught history and speech at Oakwood High School. In 1968 he piled his lovely and divine wife and their seven children into the family station wagon and moved to Auburn, Indiana, where he spent the next 12 years working at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company as a production control manager. Jason was a past president of the Fort Wayne Chapter of American Production and Inventory Control (APIC), a founding member of the original Auburn Arts Council in 1974 and a founding member of the Auburn Community Theater (ACT 1) in 1971. He loved to perform and directed dozens of productions throughout the decade. In 1976 he won Best Director at the Indiana State Community Theatre competition for directing a scene from "Anastasia." (How convenient that he cast his lovely and divine wife to play the lead role.) Jason was also an avid reader and card player. He was a Life Master at Bridge and taught many people to play while he lived in Auburn. Jason continued his career as production control manager at Tenneco Company in Angola, Indiana, for another 15 years until his retirement. In Angola, he performed in a traveling murder mystery troupe on weekends and won first place in the Indiana State Literacy Coalition Spelling Bee in 1991, along with two other team members. In his own words, he "just had a circus…" Jason is survived by his lovely and divine wife of 59 years, Mary (Calton) Outland; and six of his children, Brad and his wife, Diane (Yost) of Chesterfield, Virginia; Craig and his wife, Betsy (Blake) of Maryville, Tennessee; Angie and her husband, Mark Dollins of Ridgefield, Connecticut; Noel and his wife, Beth (Perdue) of Greenwood; Jason G. and his wife Carol (Hoyt) of Carmel; and Holly and her wife, Samantha of Long Beach, California. Jason also took great delight in his grandchildren, Curtis, Eric, Claire, Emma, Isaac, Ben, Genna and Cate. Besides his parents, Jason was preceded in death by his first-born son, Eric Noel Outland; his beloved granddaughter, Rachel Marie Outland; and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Catherine Perdue Outland. Calling will be Friday, May 15, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Road, and again on Monday, May 18, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Feller & Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, Indiana.
