Our charismatic and beloved son, grandson and brother, Jaydon Alexander Burwell was quietly taken from this world after an accidental overdose on Valentine\'s Day, Sunday February 14, 2021.
Jaydon, who was the 2nd born out of 7 children, was born on December 13, 1998 in Ventura California.
His family knew him as mild mannered (just kidding) and his friends knew him as \"lil shorts\" because Jaydon took fashion cues from no one. His signature everyday look was his \"lil shorts\" his favorite hoodie, and some sort of obnoxious colored socks. Jaydon was definitely full of charm, he was witty, put others before hims, and always had a giant smile that lit up a room.
Jaydon had a passion for baseball, enjoyed video games, music, hanging out with family & friends and making people laugh. Jaydon loved to dance, even though he wasn\'t good at it and he left an impression on everyone he came across, mostly because he was always the loudest one in the room!
Jaydon attended Pineville Elementary School, Community House Middle School, and South Meck High School where he played on the high school baseball team before getting accepted into Levine Middle College High School where he graduated in 2018. After graduating he completed lifeguard training and was best known for his lifeguard gigs at local neighborhood pools and The Carowinds water park.
Jaydon had a lot of life left to live and we are heartbroken having to accept that he will never be able to redeem the bad things he\'s done. We should acknowledge this! Unfortunately, most of his adult life many only knew Jaydon through the lens of the addictions he battled. That wasn\'t the real Jaydon though. For those fortunate enough to know the real Jaydon we all loved and adore, you understood how much he didn\'t want to be defined by his addiction and mistake. Jaydon wanted to feel loved, accepted, worthy, normal, happy and assured that everything would be alrigh. He thought he had a handle on it but he kept falling into its grip. All addiction did was take...take....and take some more until it took his life!
If you\'re reading this obituary thinking that you too have a handle on this, that you can somehow control this monster called addiction that is destroying families and friendship, you can\'t! As much as we tried to help, it\'s ultimately up to you. Please ask for help! We, your loved ones will come running!
While Jaydon was unable to overcome that battle, he was a fierce and persistent fighter who lived everyday of his life as fully as he could. Our family takes comfort in knowing Jay has gone to a place where music, laughter, & love are guaranteed and you can bet on it that if there\'s a TikTok up there, Jay will find! He\'ll be there saying, \"You know I gotchu!\"
Jaydon leaves behind to cherish his memor: his Mother, Jennifer Marie Berl-Coates of Pineville NC; Step Dad , Sherrod Coates of Pineville NC; Father, Antoine Burwell (Lisa); Grand Parents, John and Lynne Berl of South Carolina; three brothers: Phillip Reed, Isaiah Burwell, Sevyn Coates and three sisters: Jenae Burwell, Simone Burwell, Quinn Coates, and 2 step siblings: Mackenzie and Makayla Coates, and a host of other relatives and friends.
This is not goodbye Jaydon, this is a see ya later.
We love you and will miss you so much!
Life will not be the same without you.
Jaydon will be cremated, a memorial celebration service will be held at a later date and will be announced via FB.
