Jean E. MasonCrystalDied on December 28, 2016 in Lansing, Michigan. She was born on December 11, 1922 in Akron, Ohio to Dr. Maurice C. and Elizabeth H. (Hopkin) Loree. She grew up in Lansing and graduated from Lansing Central High School in 1940. In 1944 she graduated from the
University of Michigan. She was a life-long Wolverine fan who none-the-less later went to
Michigan State University to obtain her Masters Degree.In 1947 she married Peter C. Mason, Sr. They made their home in Blanchard, Michigan where the raised their children, Peter C. (Dace) Mason, Jr., James F. (Terry) Mason and Anne L. (Joe) Mason. She had four grandchildren, Matthew (Michelle) Mason, Megan (Peter) Matt, Peter C. (Jamie) Mason III, and Rebecca (Keith) Mason. She also had three greatgrandchildren, Angus Matt, Theodore Matt and Emmalyn Mason.She taught for many years in the Edmore, Blanchard and Montabella School Districts.After the death of her husband in 1982 she moved to the Lansing area to assist in the care of her parents. She later moved to Arizona for the winters and stayed at the family cottage at Crystal Lake in the summer. She was a member of the Blanchard-Pine River United Methodist Church and later the Willowbrook Methodist Church in Sun City, Arizona. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority, the PEO Sisterhood for 70 years, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Blanchard Garden Club and many other groups.She is survived by her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, her brother, James H. Loree, of Northville, Michigan her beloved nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Independence Village - Grand Ledge and the Sparrow Palliative Care Team for their care and support of Jean.Pursuant to her wishes cremation has taken place by the Palmer, Bush, Jensen Family Funeral Homes of Lansing, Michigan. A memorial service will be held in the spring. The time and place will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Montabella Community Schools Education Fund.
