Jean F. Garvey, age 86, of Elmira, NY died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Chemung County Nursing Facility.Jean was born on January 14, 1931 in Elmira to Anthony and Frances (Przybylski) Schwenkler. She was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy and St. Joseph's School of Nursing. She married John F. Garvey on May 28, 1955 and was preceded in death by him on December 29, 2012.Jean enjoyed gardening, golfing, and watching the NY Giants. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Kay (David) Gronski of Corning and Virginia (Michael) Wolf of Woodbury, CT; five sons, Thomas Garvey of Elmira, Joseph Garvey of Corning, Patrick (Theresa) Garvey of Corning, Paul (Wendy) Garvey of Broomfield, CO, and John W. Garvey of Horseheads; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie, Jennifer, John, Greg, Kim, Mark, Megan, Eric, Haley, Gabi, James, and Adrian; two great grandchildren, Eli and Ava; sister, Mary Cain of Elmira; many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her daughter, Jean Linnan; several brothers and sisters.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 30th from 4 - 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, March 31st at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street in Corning.
