Jean W. (Conkle) GrayLancaster: Gwendolyn Jean Gray, 89 of Lancaster, OH passed away on Monday, September 18th, 2017 at the Lanfair Rehab and Nursing Center after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on June 11th, 1928 in Arbuckle, WV. The daughter of Forest and Lena (Sayre) Wandling. Jean was a 1945 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and attended Franklin University. She worked for many years at BIS and retired from the State of Ohio Department of Youth Services, where she was a Personnel Director. Jean was a member of the Fairfield Medical Center TWIG 2, the Fairfield Heritage Association, as well as a Docent at the Sherman and Georgian Houses. Jean was a longtime member of the 6th Avenue United Methodist Church and a member of Olivedale and the Pickaway Seniors Citizens. Jean never knew a stranger and was a friend to so many. She was an avid world traveler, having visited almost every country in the world on 6 of the 7 Continents. Sadly she never got to fulfill visiting the continent, Antartica. Jean is survived by her loving family, nephew, Tom Crook; great niece and nephew, Donna (Jim) Averill, and Dale (Lori) Crook; great-great nephew and niece, Erik (Aimee) Averill and Laura Averill (Dom Morra); and her great-great-great nieces, Brynnlee and Gracelyn Averill, who brought her such joy! She is also survived by stepchildren, Tom (Jean) Gray, Linda (Charlie) Hunter, and Joyce (Ron) Thaman; as well as many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 at 11AM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Rick Jones officiating. Friends may visit on Friday from 2-4PM & 6-8 PM at the funeral home, as well as ONE-HOUR PRIOR to the services on Saturday. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
