CARVER Jean Marie (Fischer) Carver, 86, Shawnee, Kan., passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Overland Park Church of Christ, 13400 W. 119th, Overland Park, Kan. Following the funeral, you are welcome to visit with the family in the foyer. A private burial will precede the service. Jean was born on July 5, 1930, in Waverly, Kan., to Frank and Marie (Morton) Fischer. A graduate of Waverly High School, she attended Kansas State Teachers College (now Emporia State University). She taught in the Waverly Schools before moving on to work at the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka, Kan. Jean married Mervin Carver of Topeka and they had three children, Gwendolyn, Richard and Bradley. The family moved to Shawnee in 1963. In 1966, Mervin and Jean joined the Overland Park Church of Christ where Jean served on many ministries. She was known for her tireless efforts on the Wedding Reception Ministry. She was active with Sonshine School. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin in 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Gwen, her sons, Rich (Carrie) of Shawnee, and Brad (Liza), of Lenexa, Kan.; granddaughters, Erin (Zach) Morgan, Caitlin (Matt) Schoolfield and Lauren Carver; grandsons, Steve (Devin) Carver and Johnny Carver; and great-grandchildren, Carver and Remington Morgan, many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly. The Carver family wishes to thank the staff at Shawnee Hills Senior Living, Shawnee Mission Medical Center and St. Luke's Hospice House for their compassion and support.
