Jean-Paul Tolinage 81, of Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana, passed away in Palm Desert, California on June 18, 2017. Jean-Paul was born on March 21, 1936 to the late Mary (Caldwell) and Paul Tolin. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, Class of 1954. Jean was an avid golfer his entire life. His love for the game started in his youth when he was mentored as a golf caddy. Jean was stationed at Burtonwood, England where he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. Jean and his wife Phyllis had two children while stationed in England. After his service, Jean studied at Indianapolis University (Formerly known as Indiana Central College) where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Jean started working as a bookkeeper part time during high school at Bond Bakery. During his lifetime, he worked in sales for Stokely Van Camp, Proctor and Gamble and American Greetings before becoming an independent business owner for 20 years. After retiring in 1998, Jean enjoyed playing golf, reading and music, along with traveling both here in the States and Europe. Jean was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis for over 30 years.Devoted husband, Jean married Phyllis Hawkins on June 4, 1955 after eloping to Jeffersonville, Indiana. They recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. They have 4 children, Cristiane (Tolin) Napolitan of Orange, California, Jean-Paul Tolin II of Reno, Nevada, deceased, Marc V. Tolin, and J. Kevin Tolin of Huntington Beach, California. Jean enjoyed spending time with his 5 Grandchildren, Dr. Philip Napolitan, Kevin Napolitan, Ellen (Tolin) Glavin, Samantha (Tolin) Wilcoxon and Alex Tolin. He delighted in time spent with the Great Grandchildren, Nicholas and Chloe Glavin.Jean is survived by sisters Joan (Tolin) Meador of Indianapolis, Eva (Tolin) Foreman of Webster, Texas, and brother Robert Tolin of Houston, Texas. Jean was preceded in death by his sister, Linda (Tolin) Tarpley of Indianapolis, and brother Donald Tolin of Dallas, Texas.A memorial service was held on July 3, 2017 at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Palm Desert, California. Inurnment will be at Caldwell Cemetery, Trader's Point, Indiana where he will be laid to rest. Cremation was handled by Rose Mortuary in Palm Desert, California.
