Jeane Trauger Obituary
Feb 26, 1922 - Jan 08, 2017
This obituary is administered by:
Trauger, JeaneJeane "Granny" Ullerich Trauger , age 95, of New London, died at home on May 8, 2017. Jeane was born on February 26th, 1922, daughter of Myrtle Nye and Milton Ullerich. After graduating from NLHS in 1940, she took childcare classes in California, which resulted in becoming a nanny for the actress Penny Singleton ("Blondie" from the movies). After the war broke out, she moved to La Porte, Indiana, where she worked in a plant, making bombs for the military. Jeane enlisted in the Army, and was stationed in Gulf Port, Louisiana, where she met Calvin "Bud" Trauger. They were married on April 17, 1946, in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The couple had 5 children between 1947 and 1963. Bud was a successful salesman, and the family moved 9 times in those years. Jeane and Bud lost their first child, Amy, when she was struck by a car at the age of 5. Then in 1965, Bud died unexpectedly, from meningitis, leaving Jeane a widow, with four children to raise. Following in her parents' footsteps, Jeane became an antiques dealer, and opened "Studio Antiques" in 1978. Jeane, "the book lady", made many wonderful friends in this community; Bob Zurko, Mike Jacoby, Barb Stoy, and many others. Jeane was a founding member of the Wolf River Art League. She helped save the Old City Hall and the Grand Theater in New London. She was a proud member of the Shamrock Club of New Dublin, where she served as Irish Rose in 2009, and was also a member of the Red Hat Honeys. Later in life she found friendship and a wonderful companion in Henri Miles. The two traveled much of the world together in the 1990s. They shared many wonderful years together, watching old movies, playing cards, having Saturday morning breakfast at The Franklin House, and attending Henri's many band gigs and art shows. Sadly, in 2007, she lost Henri to a stroke. She continued her travels, and amazed us all by zip-lining over YS Falls in Jamaica at age 87, then parasailing over the Caribbean Sea at 90. It's easy to see why she's our hero. The family is especially grateful to her caregivers; her daughter Melissa, "favorite son" Randy, granddaughter, Macushla, son Tim, Lori Schneider, Janet Przybylski, Peggy Nichols, Patti Kostrzak, Dolly McHugh, and Jan Gruetzmacher. And also for the compassionate care given by the Appleton V.A., especially Kathy Korth, Deb Paffenroth, and Dawn Martin. She is survived lovingly by her children: Melissa Mulroy (Randy Genske) New London; Steve (Kim) Trauger, Hebron, Kentucky; Tim (Kathy) Trauger, Appleton; David (Jayne) Trauger, Waupaca. Grandchildren: Macushla Mulroy, Ben Trauger, and Jess (Nick) Christianson ; Randy's children Scott Genske & Krystal (Al) Stevens; and one Great Grandchild, her pride and joy, Otis Christianson. She is further survived by many loved ones, including her stand-in son, Al Reese, her honorary-grandson, Gino Canzoneri, and life-long friends, the Sterlings, Wettsteins, and Ramsdells.A memorial service for Jeane will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London. Rev. Greg Watling will be officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London and also from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Hortonville.
