Jeffrey Alan Wilson, 41, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 2nd, 2016, at his home in Juneau. Jeff was born on August 17, 1975, in Eugene, Oregon, to Rodney and Janie Wilson. The family briefly moved to Portland, OR, before finally settling in Juneau in 1981. Jeff attended Glacier Valley Elementary School, Floyd Dryden and Marie Drake Middle Schools, and graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1994. Jeff worked various positions on many of the State's ferries while employed by the Alaska Marine Highway System. He was known for his pleasant smile, quirky sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. He enjoyed sharing his "tales of Alaska" with the various travelers aboard the vessels, but in 2008 his failing health forced an early retirement. Jeff frequently worked in the kitchen area aboard the ferries, and over time he developed a passion for cooking. He was the self proclaimed "head chef" at many family dinners and gatherings. Jeff also enjoyed animals. His best friend "Shibby," a large black and white cat, was his loyal companion for over 16 years. Jeffrey is survived by his mother and father, Rodney and Janie Wilson, sister Lorri (Aaron) Mar, as well his two beloved nieces, Maisey and Millie Mar. At his request, Jeff's ashes will be spread off the ferry in a private family ceremony. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Mountain View Senior Center.
