A Life Well Lived
Obituary
Mr. Jeffrey Bryon Walker was born March 4th, 1954, in Los Angeles, California. Jeffrey spent his youth in Compton, California surrounded by lots of family and friends. While attending high school in Compton, Jeffrey developed a love for the JROTC military class, which in turn ignited a desire in him to attend the military after high school. He chose to enter the Air Force for 3 years and was forever proud of his achievement as a member of the U.S. Military Services. Even in his advanced age he continued to be proud of his service time and would constantly purchase air force and military memorabilia to signify and symbolize his time as a proud member of the air force.
After traveling all over the world and embarking on several military adventures, Jeffrey partook in various employment adventures. His favorite job adventure was working as a taxi driver. He loved being a driver and always had an interesting or funny story about his time driving taxi cabs throughout Los Angeles. He would always remark to his daughter Krystle when they would be on car excursions that he “was a driver,” and that it was in her blood to drive, she of course just thought he was crazy and would tell him so, but Jeffrey loved to drive and thought he was truly gifted with an extraordinary skill behind the wheel.
Jeffrey was a gifted salesmen with the ability to use his persuasive speaking skills to woo people and to get his way. He particularly liked yard sales and cars and would use the gift of gab to get prices reduced on various merchandise that he wanted. If he went to a yard sale and saw something he liked for 20$, you better believe Jeffrey left the yard sale with that same merchandise costing 5$ or less. It didn’t matter what store he was in or even at a car lot, he was going to talk down the price and get what he wanted. His wife always told him his mother must have spoiled him because he had the mentality that he deserved whatever he wanted, and he was going to do whatever necessary in order to get it. He collected so many different artifacts over the years and he had several trinkets that he adored, even though they usually irritated his family as they couldn’t understand how little things, he would find in yard sales and thrift stores would bring him so much happiness, but they always did. He exemplified the quote that “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” as Jeffrey would take pride in anything he found no matter how much his wife or children would protest for him to give it back or throw it away.
Jeffrey enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to go fishing, shopping, picnics, BBQs, and driving in nice cars. When he got older his greatest passion was going to different casinos like Las Vegas, Pechanga, Morongo and most importantly San Manuel as it was the closest to his home. His trips as he called them consisted of him riding around on his scooter with his oxygen tank strapped to the back and his money in his wallet ready to embark on a daily adventure of fun and almost running over at least one person in the casino. He would drive fast and if someone was in his path, they better watch out as his excitement had him focused only on
the next machine, the next thrill, and the next jackpot which may have only been 30$, but to him was always a huge win. If he was playing and won 10$, he would always remark he “was a bad man,” and he would laugh and go on to the next machine and be ready to “get the big one,” while his family members watched him, or his children or wife laughed in amusement. When he got too sick to attend the casino on his own, he would have his daughter Krystle attend different casinos and video call him and watch her play his favorite games through video chat and get excited as if he were right there in the room. He used his gift of gab to tell her “Daddy can’t go so I need you to go for me and win big for us.” Even when she had an attitude or didn’t feel like going, she would still go for her daddy because she knew this brought him joy and he would just make her feel guilty if she didn’t go. He was a mastermind at the art of persuasion.
He also enjoyed his ministry and listening to Joel Osteen, T.D. Jakes, John Hagee, Juanita Bynum and Joyce Meyer to name a few. He would watch his daily programs and have his wife tape his favorite shows so that he could re-watch them and meditate on a message that he felt resonated in his spirit. In addition to his spiritual programs, Jeffrey loved to watch western programs and rerun television programs of his favorite shows that came on in the 60’s-80’s. He loved the Andy Griffith show and Gunsmoke in particular.
38 years ago, Jefferey met his soulmate, Delisa whom he shared 3 children with. He loved spending time with his wife and children, even if it was just eating dinner and watching a movie or taking a quick trip to the casino. Jeffrey is survived by his wife Delisa, Daughters Krystle and Sherilyn, and son Christopher. He also has one grandson named Akil thru his daughter Sherilyn.
