Jenevieve Marcelle (Hoffman) BuckelsAge: 88 • Republic, MOJenevieve (Jenny) H. Buckels died on Tuesday March 7, 2017, after a brief illness and hospitalization. She was born on November 20, 1928, in Swoope, Virginia. Jenny was the second of eight children born to Archie F. Hoffman and Ruth L. (Sheets) Hoffman Alexander. She grew up on the family farm in Fishersville, VA.She graduated from Fishersville High School in 1945 and moved to New Castle, Indiana to attend Business College in nearby Muncie, Indiana. It was during her years in New Castle that she met and married her husband, Fred P. Buckels, Jr.For the next 26 years they traveled the United States while Fred pursued his career as an Officer and Quartermaster in the United States Army, including tours of duty in Germany and Taiwan. In 1973 they retired and settled in Springfield, MO. In 1978 Jenny and Fred decided to pursue their lifelong dream and purchased a 55 acre hobby farm near rural Elkland, MO. For the next few years they spent many happy hours together tending their garden, fruit trees, and many pets. After Fred's death in 1980, Jenny remained on the farm for several years. She relocated to Republic, MO in 1996, to be closer to her family and remained there until her passing.Jenny enjoyed working at Dillard's Department Store in Springfield as a sales associate for over 25 years. She loved gardening, flowers, plants, cooking, sewing, pets, and her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She is survived by her children Susan Wason of Fayette, MO, Steven Buckels and spouse Carol of DeLand, FL, Linda Locke of Springfield, MO, James Buckels and spouse Han Zhao, of Springfield, MO; grandchildren Amber Henson (Mitch) of Rolla, Erin Peterson (Jeremy) of Springfield, Evan Henslee of Springfield, Alex Locke, of Springfield; two great-grandchildren Erin Elaine Henson and Malin Marcelle Peterson; one sister Jane Rutledge (Dan) of Waynesboro, VA, one brother William Hoffman of Staunton, VA; one brother-in-law Asher Silverburg of Tucson, Arizona and niece Ashley Bunn (Ted) of Richmond, Virginia.She was preceded in death by her husband LTC Fred P. Buckels, Jr., her daughter Ruth E. Henslee; her sisters Virginia V. Thompson and A. Lenora Wine; and brothers Owen Hoffman, Clarence Hoffman, and Robert Hoffman.Jenny will be remembered by all that knew her for her kind, loving, caring, and compassionate nature.Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Greenlawn South Funeral Home, 441 W. Battlefield, Springfield, MO.Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Greenlawn South. Interment will follow after a brief service at Springfield National Cemetery, 1702 E. Seminole St., Springfield, MO.The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The American Red Cross.
