CARROLLTON, GA | Jennie Walker was born on May 23, 1951, in Trenton, North Carolina to Mrs. Ruby Kay Turman Phillips and the late Marion Samuel Phillips. She departed this life on September 16, 2016. She was preceded in death by her father, Marion S.; two brothers, Thomas Lee Phillips, her twin brother James "Glind" Phillips and his wife, (sister-in-law) Myrice "Bochee" Phillips; and a brother-in-law, James Ned Ingram. She had a passion for caring for others which inspired her to choose healthcare as her profession. She started her nursing career as an LPN. She attended Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, Boston Massachusetts. For her continued studies in nursing, she attended, Roxbury Community College, Roxbury, MA, Floyd College, Rome, GA and concluded her studies graduating from West Georgia College, Carrollton, GA to become a registered nurse. During her career as a nurse, her work covered many areas in the nursing field, ER, ICU, CCU, and Telemetry. Her later years in nursing were with Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center for over eight years. She was the first nurse in her family. She inspired her fellow siblings, nieces, and in-laws to become nurses. We are now a family of healthcare providers. Her legacy includes encouraging over seven family members to become nurses. She was especially proud of the Nurse Practitioner in the family. She boasted and encouraged her niece to never give up and stay focused, and she lived and was able to see her niece accomplish becoming a Nurse Practitioner. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, shopping, and modeling. She enjoyed celebrating and giving dinner parties for any and every occasion such as baby showers, birthdays, the start and end of college courses, sports playoffs, and there are many times she would cook Thanksgiving-like meals just to bring the family together. She was an excellent cook. She was caring, supportive, nurturing, loving, beautiful, and simply "the best" person anyone could ever meet or know. She was always to the point and direct on what she wanted. She was a member of King Street Christian Church of Carrollton, GA. She was member of the choir, and was a very important part of the church activities, and did enjoy singing in the choir. She was a devoted, loving mother and daughter, grandmother, aunt, and sister. She was raised in the Eastern part of North Carolina. Soon after high school she moved to Boston, Massachusetts. She was blessed with three children. She was married early in life to Kenneth Maurice Wilkerson, and in this union they had one son, Kenneth Maurice Walker. Later in her life she married her second husband, Willis Walker then moved to Carrollton, Georgia, and to this union she had another two sons, Matthew B. Walker and Christopher Michael Walker, and gained a beautiful step-daughter, Cynthia Walton. She has five grandchildren, Ametryia Faith Walker, Andrew Blake Walker, Matthew Samuel Walker, Shamaria Barnes Walker, and Christian Barnes Walker. She leaves her legacy of love as follows: her mother, Ruby Kay Phillips of Carrollton, GA; son Matthew (Demetrice) Walker of Bowdon, GA; son Kenneth Maurice Walker of Douglasville, GA; son Christopher Michael Walker of Carrollton, GA; one goddaughter Maya Jeanae Phillips of Carrollton, GA; sisters Betty N. Ingram of Carrollton, Teresa K. Sadberry of Carrollton, Yvette Phillips of Boston, MA, and Suzette (Shannon) Bianchi of Nahant, MA; brothers: Curtis L. Phillips of Carrollton, Willie S. (Mary) Phillips of Groveport, Ohio, and Johnny K. (Linda) Phillips of Ellenwood. GA, Edward E. Phillips of Carrollton, GA, Jerry Phillips of Carrollton, GA, Bobby R. Phillips of Carrollton, GA, and Dennis L. (Val) Phillips of St. Petersburg, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family and many beloved friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 24, 2016, at noon from Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Delbert Watkins officiating. Her body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in West Georgia Memorial Park. Those serving as pallbearers will be Willie S. Phillips, Edward E. Phillips, James M. Phillips, Johnny K. Phillips, Bobby R. Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Milton Alphabet, and Dennis L. Phillips.
