Nov 01, 2017 - Jan 11, 2017
This obituary is administered by:
Frederick, Jerome A. Passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by his family at Menomonee Place, on April 11, 2017. Born to Dr. Roland and Catherine (Fleming) Frederick, Jerry was a lifelong resident of Wauwatosa. Jerry was the fourth boy in a row, born on Nov. 15, 1929... "the (other) crash of '29!?" and is preceded in death by four of his siblings, Rollie, Tom, Robert, and Kathleen; his sister Mary (Norb) Gableman, survives. He graduated from Marquette University High School in 1948, where he lettered in basketball for three years and track for his senior year. Jerry attended Marquette University in 1948-49 on a basketball scholarship, before attending Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, where he continued playing basketball. He graduated college with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1952. Returning home after college, Jerry re-connected with the classy Marquette University co-ed he met in Freshman Theology class, Dorothy Mueller, of Wichita, KS. Jerry and Dorothy later married in 1955 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. Jerry will be remembered by his beloved wife of 61 years, Dorothy (nee Mueller), his children Mark (Deb), Karen (Randall) Pichler, Ann (Peder) Frank, Michael (Kate), David, and Paula (Robb) Furrer, ex daughter-in-law Lori and his grandchildren Maggie, Matt, Claire, Paige, Angela, Jacki, Cassie, Jerry, Sam, Gracie, Josh, Tom, Bryan, and Aaron. He is further survived by his sister Mary (Norb) Gableman and other relatives and friends. Jerry enlisted in the US Army after graduation and was stationed at Camp Gordon in Augusta, GA, before being commissioned as a Corporal in Germany for the Korean War. Jerry's elite basketball abilities kept him from combat, as he was assigned on a US Army basketball traveling team. After two years of service, Jerry returned to Milwaukee and joined Kieckhefer Boxes as a Sales Trainee. Jerry distinguished himself as a hardworking salesperson who grew his business as he covered a territory of SE Wisconsin, Chicago, and NE Indiana. Jerry ascended to the Sales Manager role and enjoyed taking his customers hunting for pheasant at the company farm in Ixonia, WI. After 17 years at Kieckhefer, Jerry made the bold move to start his own corrugated box business, Frederick Packaging, Inc., in the family's basement in 1975. With Dorothy typing the invoices, the business's humble beginnings grew quickly as Jerry's industry contacts and likeable personality enabled him to hire son Mark in 1988. Eventually 2 other children, David and Paula, joined the firm and have been there for over 20 years. The business then moved to Milwaukee for 20 years. In 2008, with Mark having bought the business from his Dad in 1998, Frederick Pkg. moved to Butler; Jerry officially retired in 2012. Jerry lived a great life. He loved his family dearly and golfed regularly at West Bend CC and Westmoor CC. The Sheraton Lawns neighborhood was the best neighborhood in 'tosa: lots of unsupervised kids while parents entertained each other at cocktail parties. He was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Leo J. Brust Council #3702. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 12130 W. Center Street in Wauwatosa on Saturday, April 22 at 11:30 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM followed by Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for you to please consider making a memorial in Jerry's name to Marquette University High School, 3401 West Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53208 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 3333 N. Mayfair Rd. 107, Wauwatosa, WI 53222.
