Gerum, Father Jerome G.Father Jerome G. Gerum, 91, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care, Marshfield.A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the most Reverend Bishop William P. Callahan as Principal Celebrant. The Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assemble will form a guard of honor. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Wisconsin Rapids, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #9. The visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday and from 9:30 am until service time on Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. A Knights of Columbus rosary service will be held at 6:30 pm on Friday at Sacred Heart Church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Father Gerum was born on August 20, 1925 in Wisconsin Rapids, the son of George and Anastasia (Klimek) Gerum. He attended St. John's High School and College in Collegeville, MN before going to St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, MD. He was ordained by Bishop John P. Treacy on April 16, 1950 at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral in LaCrosse. Father Gerum's first assignment was as an assistant at St. Mary's Assumption Parish, Durand, in 1950. In 1951 he became an assistant at Holy Trinity Parish, LaCrosse, and instructor at Aquinas High School. In 1954 he was named assistant at St. Patrick Parish, Eau Claire, an instructor at Regis High School. Father Gerum was named assistant director of the diocesan department of education in LaCross in 1956 and in 1957 became an instructor at Holy Cross Seminary, LaCrosse. In 1960 he was appointed administrator of St. Joachim Parish, Pittsville. In 1964 he was named administrator at Sacred Heart Parish, Wauzeka; in 1968 he became pastor of St. Therese, Schofield; and in 1969 he was named pastor at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Cadott. Father Gerum became pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Ellsworth, and administrator of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Clayfield, in 1981. In 1982, he was named pastor at St. Mary Parish, Lyndon Station, and in 1984 he was appointed dean of the Mauston Deanery. He was granted the status of senior priest in 1995, but served as administrator at Sacred Heart Parish, Marshfield in 1998, where he resided until the present time. Father had served as a chaplain (Capt.) in the United States Air Force. Father Gerum is survived by his siblings, Dolores Gerum of Wisconsin Rapids, Donald (Mary) Gerum of Tomahawk and Bernadette Gerum of Wisconsin Rapids. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends and caregivers, Stephana Scholzen, Vicki Esser and Deacon Ray Draeger. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, Bernice Flammang, Mary Jane Jackan, and Georgia Waldherr, and 2 nephews and 2 nieces.The family wishes to thank the staff of Atrium Post Acute Care and Wells Nature View for the loving care that was given to Father.
