"Jerry" Sauerer, age 86, of Winona, MN, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.He was born on March 28, 1931, in Collegeville, MN, to Carl and Eleanor Sauerer. On June 23, 1955, he was united in marriage with Mary Ann Schwieters at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph, MN.Jerry worked at St. John's Abbey in Collegeville, MN, for 21 ½ years, and then relocated to Winona where he operated the food service at St. Mary's College for over 30 years. Following retirement, Jerry enjoyed working for the Watkowski Funeral Home in Winona. He was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Winona.Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children: Thomas (Carol) Sauerer, Winona; Bonnie (Steve) Francisco, Eagan, MN; Elizabeth (Randy) Bloch, St. Cloud, MN; Linda (David) Orzechowski, St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren: Amy (Kyle) O'Laughlin, Winona; Brent Sauerer, Winona; Laura (Mike) Rehbein, Baltimore, MD; Michael (fiancée Lauren Turner) Bloch, Buffalo, MN; Emily (Alex) Miller, Hampton, VA; Sarah Bloch, St. Cloud, MN; Philip Orzechowski, St. Cloud, MN; great-grandchildren: Vaida Rehbein, Zander Rehbein, and Maelin O'Laughlin; brother: Roger (Tillie) Sauerer, Inver Grove Heights, MN; special cousin, Joyce Brandenburg, Apache Junction, AZ; sister-in-law: Marlene (Lawrence) Herickhoff, Woodbury, MN; brothers-in-law: Clarence Schwieters, Rochester, MN; Arnold (Linda) Schwieters, St. Paul, MN; and Jerry (Kathy) Schwieters, Sartell, MN; a chosen daughter, Marie Redican, Allentown, PA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Celine Norman and Kathleen Ostendorf; and five half-brothers: Elmer, Charles, Melvin, Leo, and Roman Sauerer.A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM, on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, 625 East Fourth Street, Winona.Jerry will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.The Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held at 4 PM on Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home 201 Mankato Avenue, Winona. Following the Rosary, visitation will continue until 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.It is respectfully suggested that memorials be directed to St. John's Abbey in Collegeville, MN, or to the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN.Online condolences or memories may be left for Jerry's family at
