RACINE - Jerome 'Jerry' Stanley Wallace, 90, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012, at United Hospital System in Kenosha. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on April 10, 1922, the son of the late Stanley Wallace (Villius) and Agnes (nee: Jankousky) Wallace. He married Mabel Houmann on December 18, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas and they enjoyed 61 years together. Jerry graduated from Wm. Horlick High School in January 1940. He excelled in athletics and was known as 'Ace' to his teammates in football and basketball. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and began service in January 1941. He served in the 135th Medical Regiment in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater until his discharge as a Technical Sergeant in September 1945. Jerry managed Houmann & Son Fish Market until 1979, and was active in many fraternal organizations and as an avid angler in Salmon Unlimited. Upon retirement he and Mabel made toys and wood products volunteering their time to the RSVP Schools and Seniors program. He played cards weekly at the various park programs. The highlight of his last years was participation in an Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2010. Surviving are one daughter Sandra Wallace Magle and son-in-law, Glenn Magle of Lake Zurich, IL, grandsons, Kristopher (Jolanta) Magle and Kurt (Richelle) Magle all of Hanover Park, IL, brother-in-law, Bud Bylsma of Racine and sister-in-law, Nana (Houmann) DeYoung of Ames, IA. Further survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel in 2006, his sisters, Florence (Leonard) Gatzke, Josephine (Bill) Gatzke and Alice (Bud-William II) Bylsma. There will be a memorial visitation at the funeral home on Sunday, June 17, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with full military honors at 5 p.m. Jerry will be laid to rest with his wife, Mabel in a private ceremony at Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
