Mr. Jerry Slater passed away on March 28, 2025, in Georgetown, Guyana, at the age of 66. Born on April 19, 1958, Jerry lived a life grounded in faith, family, and fellowship.
He began his education at St. Margaret's Primary School and continued at Central High School. With unwavering dedication and strength, Jerry devoted much of his working life to the gold mining industry, laboring in the bush with perseverance and commitment.
Jerry embraced life’s simple pleasures with joy and gratitude. He found happiness in dancing, cooking, playing dominoes, and watching cricket—pastimes that reflected his love for community and celebration. His laughter was infectious, and his warm presence left a lasting impression on all who encountered him.
He was a devoted husband to Barbara Slater and a loving father to Janelle and Jermaine Slater. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Kyle and Kaila Slater, as well as Jasmine and Gerard Wilson. His affection extended to his nieces and nephews: Cheryl Slater, Jonette Slater, Renata Slater, Delyse Slater, Carla Blanchard, Abigail Blanchard, Shawn Blanchard, Steve Blanchard, Dwayne Jeffrey, and Neisha Jeffrey.
He is lovingly remembered by his father Larry and siblings Anthony Slater, Robert Blanchard, John Blanchard, and Annie Blanchard.
He was preceded in death by his mother Anne-Marie Blanchard; sister Cheryl Blanchard; uncle Gerard Slater; nephew Joseph Slater; and nieces Carla and Ashley Blanchard.
A memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held at Merriman Funeral Home, RR4R+3G6 Bent St., Georgetown, Guyana. Family and friends will gather to honor a man whose spirit brought joy through music, stories, and shared meals.
May Jerry rest in eternal peace. His memory will continue to bring comfort to those who knew him.
