Jerry Dan EdgarThousand Oaks, CAJerry Dan Edgar, 77, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at his home in Thousand Oaks, CA following a courageous fight against cancer. Jerry was born on March 20, 1939, in Madill, Oklahoma. He was the middle child of Ted and Lynn Edgar.The Edgar family moved to Santa Maria, CA when Jerry was 5 years old. He attended Santa Maria High School where he was very involved in the Art Programs. As a young teen he had several part time jobs in order to pay for piano lessons. He loved to play the piano throughout his life. At the age of 16, he joined the staff of Chern Furniture where he worked and developed his interest in interior design.Jerry attended California Baptist University in Riverside from 1957-1958. He married Mariella McCoy in Santa Maria, CA on July 30, 1966. He later attended Hancock College in Santa Maria and then went on to California College of Arts in Oakland, CA, where he graduated with a BFA in 1971.Following his graduation, they moved to Scottsdale, AZ where Jerry was Director of Design with Peter A. Lendrum Architectural firm. In 1978, they moved to Thousand Oaks, California. He worked for A.C. Martin in Los Angeles and AP&T in Pasadena where he worked for 30 years.Upon retirement Jerry spent hours gardening in his yard, organizing his collections, mostly political, and enjoying his home and family including his constant companion his dog Tanner. He was never bored and always found a new interest to pursue. Laughter with his family and friends was an important part of his life as was his faith.He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mariella; his sons, Justin of San Francisco, and Patrick of Tustin; they were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his brother James of Pine Mountain, GA; his sister Kay Herren of Apple Valley, and numerous nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 11 at New Hope Lutheran Church, 29295 Agoura Rd., Agoura Hills.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The .Arrangements are under the direction of Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, Thousand Oaks (805)230-2800.
