Jerry Don Rice, 79, went to be with Our Lord Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at Christus St Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe.He was born on Jan. 15, 1936, in Plainview Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother: Elsie Parrish Rice; father: Don Rice and by two uncles: Frank and Carroll Rice.He is survived by his wife: Flora; and daughter: Catherine Irish and her husband, Sean Irish. He is also survived by a cousin: Nancy Turk and husband, Bill Turk, from Houston Texas. He is also survived by his dog, Sandy, whom he loved very much. Also surviving is one brother-in-law: David Lucero; and four sisters-in-law: Tina Ulibarri (husband) Tony Ulibarri, Viola Lopez, Demie Lucero and Charlotte Lucero.After completing three and a half years of college he joined the U.S. Army on Aug. 19, 1958 and served as medic at West Point in New York until he was honorably discharged on Aug. 20, 1960. After serving his country he went to college at Texas A&M and graduated on Aug. 24, 1962 with bachelor of science degree. He retired from the NM State Highway Dept after 30 Years of service. He enjoyed fishing, boating and camping.Funeral services will be conducted 9 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant. Interment will be at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
