Jerry Lee Flowers of Jacksonville, NC, passed away on June 12, 2016, at the age of 76 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC.He was born on October 3, 1939, in Wilson, North Carolina to Joseph and Cleo Flowers. His family relocated to Jacksonville in the 1940's where he lived the rest of his life.At the age of 19, he joined the Army and served until 1961, and was recalled during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon discharge, he began his law enforcement career with the Jacksonville Police Department. He later joined the Onslow County Sheriff's Department where he was promoted to Detective. He continued his career in law enforcement by joining the NC ALE where he remained until 1979, upon which time he joined NC DMV where he served as Inspector until his retirement in 1994. His career was his passion, and he considered all his colleagues as his extended family.Jerry was a devoted husband, loving father, and very loving grandfather. He was known as being a kind and generous man. Everyone who knew him considered him a friend.Jerry is survived by his wife, Alyce Wiggins Flowers, with whom he recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. He is also survived by his beautiful daughter, Krystal Eure, son-in-law, Bryan Eure, and two beautiful grandchildren, Bailey and Josh Eure, whom he dearly loved. He is also survived by his sister, Lynn Freeman and her husband, Doug and their children Lesley Eason (Bob), and Doug Jr. and their families. Also survived by his devoted "man's best friend," Woody.Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph (Smokey) and Cleo Flowers in Jacksonville, NC. Also preceding him in death was his special nephew, Keko Santiago; and dear friend, Buddy Bowen.Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville with services immediately following.
