Jerry Martinez, 53, went to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 12, 2012 after battling cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Las Vegas. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a 1978 graduate of Robertson High School. He retired from the New Mexico Behavioral Institute after 25 years in 2009. Jerry's lifelong mission had been to lead people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He faithfully attended and served at the Las Vegas Christian Center. He loved spending time with and being surrounded by all of his family. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hiking and camping. He was a very wise man and got all of his knowledge and wisdom from reading his Bible and Christian books, and he always seemed to have the right answers to many of your questions. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a great inspiration to many people, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.Jerry was born on June 13, 1959 in Las Vegas to Filemon and Estefanita Martinez. He was preceded in death by his father: Filemon Martinez; paternal grandparents: Rosendo and Flora Martinez; maternal grandparents: Manuel and Anastacia Torres; his father-in-law: Juan Sandoval; his brother: Sam Martinez; a special aunt: Corrina Torres, and a very close cousin: Bob Torres.He is survived by his mom: Estefanita Martinez; his loving wife of 33 years: Dorothy Martinez; sons: Jerry and wife Rachel Martinez, Jose and wife, Louann Martinez, Samé and wife Patricia Martinez, and Justin Martinez and Michelle Manzanares; and one daughter: JeriLynn Martinez; granddaughters: Andrea, Kaylee, Areya and Esperanza; grandsons: JJ, Isaiah, Dominic, Isaac and Fabian; one great-grandson: Zoriah; his mother-in-law: Lucy Sandoval; his brother: George and wife, Charlene Martinez; his sister: Flora Martinez and Kenny Maestas, numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends.A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m today (Monday) at Las Vegas Christian Center. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Las Vegas Christian Center with Pastor Ray Rubi officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be: Clarence Romero, George Martinez Jr., Benjie Torres, Don Nelson, Michael May and Benny Pacheco.
