SUMMERS Jesse Ellsworth Summers, Sr. passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016. Jesse was born on October 14, 1937 in the Village of Providence, FL to J.L. and Eloise Summers. The family moved to Jacksonville where Jesse was a graduate of Ruth N. Upson Elementary, John Gorrie Junior High School and Robert E. Lee High School of Jacksonville. Upon graduating from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. Jesse left the Coast Guard with the rank of Lieutenant Commander after 3 years of service. He then attended The
University of Florida and graduated with his M.B.A. He began his career as a C.P.A. with Haskin & Sells (now Deloitte Touche) before creating his own firm of Jesse Summers & Associates. He was predeceased by both parents and his stepson Courtland Hardin. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joan B. Summers; children J. Ellsworth (Kelly) Summers, Jr. and Elizabeth B. Summers; as well as stepchildren Julie (John) Davenport; Craig (Betsy) Hardin and Robert Castillo; three grandchildren: Campbell Elizabeth Summers, Harper Augusta Summers and Jesse Ellsworth Summers III; as well as 4 step grandchildren Caroline (Casey) Galvin, Sarah Davenport, Autumn Davenport and Ian Hardin. He is also survived by numerous cousins as well as his aunt, Evonda Bielling Dekle. Jesse resided in Jacksonville, FL for most of his life and was active on the boards for Pine Castle and Theatre Jax. Jesse was an avid Bull Gator while also supporting his other Alma Mater, Emory University.
