GRIFTON | Jimmy Earl Ormond, 70, of Grifton, passed away on June 16, 2016, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice, with his family by his side. He was born on July 28, 1945, in Pitt County N.C. to Chester and Maybelle Ormond. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Mr. Murry Glenn Ipock. He was employed at E.I. DuPont and retired after 33 years of service. He also served four years in the U.S. Navy, serving during Vietnam. Jimmy was a member of Woodmen of the World and the Southern Pitt Bambino League, where he held the title of President for several years. He loved baseball and coached in Grifton for over 16 years. In his spare time he loved watching baseball, cheering on the Tarheels and listening to Elvis Presley music. He also enjoyed debating politics with family and friends. Jimmy is survived by his loving daughter, Tina Ormond Branch and husband Stacy, of Deep Run; a special grandson, Stephen Cole Branch; two brothers, Chester Dawson Ormond and wife Fay, of Vanceboro and Ervin Lee Ormond and wife Lois, of Ft. Barnwell; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Ipock; several nieces and nephews, and a wonderful caregiver, Ms. Betty Bradley of Kinston. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Estates in Grifton.
