It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jimmy Lester Cribb, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend. Jimmy peacefully passed away on October 31, 2024, surrounded by his family, at the age of 86.
Born on March 5, 1935, in Lumberton, North Carolina, Jimmy grew up with a passion for the outdoors and a deep love for his community. After graduating from Fairmont high school, he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he earned commendations for his dedication and courage.
After his service, John returned to Fairmont and began a long career in engineering, working for more than 30 years with D&D Auto Repair. Known for his meticulous work ethic, he played a key role in several landmark construction projects in the region. His colleagues often referred to him as “the man who could build anything.”
Outside of work, John was an avid outdoorsman who loved walking, fishing, and cooking with his family. He spent countless weekends cooking on the grill, passing on his love and talents to his children and grandchildren. He also volunteered regularly at his local church, where he served as a deacon and mentor to many younger members of the congregation.
Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Thompson; his two children, David Cribb (Lisa) and Kay Cribb (John); his four grandchildren, Tina, Keisha, Melissa, and Whitney; and his brother, Edward Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Thompson.
John’s family invites you to celebrate his life at a memorial service on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Marietta, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
John will be remembered for his generosity, his dedication to family, and his unwavering faith. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
