JOAN V. BRYAN, 98 LENA - Joan V. Bryan, 98, of Lena passed away on January 10th, 2014, at the Lena Living Center. Joan was born on March 7th, 1915, in Chicago, IL; the daughter of Joseph and Antonia (Kodad) Horna. She attended Morton High School in Cicero, IL. She was employed by Sears in Oak Brook, IL during the 1950's and 1960's. On August 1, 1936, she married Edward Vrstal where they lived in Berwyn, IL; he preceded her in death on January 26, 1978. Joan then married John Bryan on August 7, 1982, and made their home in Naperville, IL; he preceded her in death on August 20, 1993. John taught her how to play golf and they enjoyed playing golf together. They loved to travel take trips to Florida and Michigan and day trips out to eat. Joan was well known for her banana bread that was served at many meals. Joan is survived by her children, Richard (Sharon) Vrstal of Lena, IL, Jack (Janet) Vrstal of East Moline, IL and Katherine (Daniel) McKean of Fenton, MO; seven grandchildren, Jeff and Tonya, Martin and Raeann, Christopher and Melanie, Michelle and Shawn, Kimberly and Aaron, Angie and Tim, and Adam; eighteen great-grandchildren, Shayna and Scott, Lindsey and Dan, Nick and Chivone, Daphne and Nick, Tiffany and Corey, Tristan, Lucy, Zoe, Scarlet Joan and Katelyn, Christian, Jadyn, Braxton, Mason, Kameryn, Lillie, Zack and Jake; eight great-great- grandchildren, Brycen, Macyn, Max, Cooper, Anastasia Joan, Jack, Kia and Blake. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Libbie Tejcek; and one brother in infancy. Special thanks to FHN Hospice and Deb Vrstal at Lena Living Center for all the care and attention provided during Joan's later days. Cremation rites were accorded and a family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
