Joan Carolyn PainterAGE: 79 • Smyrna, DEJoan Carolyn Painter, age 79, passed away in her home in Smyrna, DE, on Sunday, October 8, 2017.She was born on April 27, 1938 in Shenandoah County, VA, the daughter of the late James and Celia Rebecca "Becky" Russell. She was a life-long resident of Arlington, VA until 2014.Joan was an adult graduate of American University of Washington, D.C. and spent her career as an accountant.She was avid reader. She loved the feel and smell of a hardback book and appreciated the convenience of her Nook and iPad.She truly enjoyed her new life in Smyrna, living near her daughter, dining out and meeting new people. Joan, with a glass of Pino Grigio and iPad was a familiar sight at nearby restaurants many evenings; as was the sighting of the spunky little lady in a Turbo VW beetle convertible cruising the town during the summer.She is survived by her daughter, Denise Painter Roberts and her husband Allan of Smyrna, DE; her son, Donald L. Painter and his wife Sharida of Centreville, VA; her grandchildren, Hayes (Andrea), Ryan (Linda), Justin (Bethany) and Scott (Sanda) Roberts, Cobi Matsumoto, and 5 great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L.
