Joan Ogilvie of Mulberry, Florida passed away on February 25, 2024 at the age of 84. She was born on October 12, 1939, in Millbank, Portland, Jamaica to Earnest Nelson and Alfreda Lewis. Joan lived a fulfilling life surrounded by loved ones. She was raised in Jamaica where she was accustomed to farm life and deep ties to the church. Her devotion was unwavering.
Missionary work with the church and Red Cross brought her to Nassau Bahamas where she met her Jamaican born husband.
In 1974, Joan married the love of her life, Alvin Ogilvie in New York, USA. They had two children; Angela and Stanford Ogilvie. They brought them from Jamaica to America. While residing in the United States of America, they had two more children, Andre and Cheryl Ogilvie (both born in the United States). The family resided in New Jersey until all four children branch off creating their own families.
Joan was a dedicated mother and grandmother, always putting her family first.
She attended Monmouth County Vocational High School for nursing and went on to work at Monmouth Medical Center until her retirement in 2010. Throughout her life, Joan enjoyed hobbies such as baking, sewing, and crafting bringing joy to those around her with her creative talents.
She is survived by her loving husband, adult children and adoring grandchildren and 3 great grand children. She is survived by 4 sisters, several nieces and nephews and a few brothers and extended family residing in England, Jamaica, Canada and the USA.
Joan will be remembered for her warm smile, kind heart, direct and outspoken and affectionate nature. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
