Joan died peacefully at home on September 9th at the age of 81. Joan was born in San Francisco and grew up in Burlingame with her parents Michael and Adarie Naughton and her four siblings.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ronald, sons Trevor (Susan), Graham (Margaret Ann), their grandchildren Owen, Quinn, Finn, Desi, and her sisters Marjorie Naughton, Nancy (Stan) Mertes and extended family.
Joan graduated from UC Berkeley and became a high school teacher in San Francisco and later in Marin where she and her husband made their home in Mill Valley.
Joan was an avid gardener, artist, and reader. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a consummate host and had a way of making everyone comfortable. She was incredibly talented but was equally humble about her many talents.
Joan’s very presence lit up any room. She will be very missed and always dearly loved.

I am very sorry to hear this news today. My deepest sympathy to Ron and to all the family; You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Even though I had not see my godmother or godfather in years, I always looked forward to the Christmas card photo with their sons and grandkids. I always remember my godmother and such a sweet and caring person. She will be greatly missed!
Love, Teri (Jones) Satterwhite & Family

Im so sorry for your loss. Joan was an amazing woman, gifted with the ability to be tender hearted, yet strong and beautifully willful. She taught me a lot in our years teaching together in eighth grade at MVMS. What I remember most is her grace. I think every woman wants to be a Joan. I did.
