Joan Peterson Stuart, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away Nov. 19, 2013, in Evanston, Wyo., at the age of 97. She was born on Oct. 26, 1916, in Delta, Utah, the third child of Dean F. and Lucile Crookston Peterson. She grew up on a farm in Delta with her three brothers: Dean, Glen, and Eldred; and three sisters: Cleo, Alucile, and Helen. She moved to North Logan with her family after she graduated from Delta High and attended Utah State University. She moved to Woodruff to teach school and met Louis, the love of her life, and they were married on Dec. 22, 1939, in the Salt Lake Temple. (They would have celebrated their 74th anniversary in December.) Five sons were born to them: Dick, Dean, Kent, Ron and Bill. She started teaching school in Woodruff in 1938 and taught for 42 years. She loved teaching and taught many children, including her own children and some of her grandchildren. She always had a smile on her face, enjoyed helping others and visiting with everyone she met. One of her favorite things to do was spending time with her family, and everyone loved being in her home. She served in many callings in the church and was a very faithful member. She and Louis went on a mission to San Diego, Calif., teaching the people from Cambodia and Laos. It was one of the highlights of their life and one she cherished. They also worked in the Ogden Temple for several years and made many new friends. She is survived by her husband, Louis, her sons Dick, Kent (Judy), Ron (Kayleen), and Bill (Cindy) and daughter-in-law Shirley Olsen. She and Louis have 22 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. She was the last child in her family and was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters, and her son Dean. A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, in the Woodruff LDS Ward, Woodruff, Utah, and again from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. in the Woodruff LDS Chapel on Nov. 23. Interment will follow in the Woodruff Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at crandallfhevanston.com.
