Tompkins, JoannJoAnn Marie Tompkins of Trumansburg passed away at home in the loving presence of her children and grandchildren on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the age of 83. JoAnn was born on February 11, 1934, a daughter of the late Charles Kaiser and Frances (Lawrence) Level Haynes. She worked for many years at the Lasing School for Girls as a cook. She was a gift to all who knew her with her tremendous love and faith in the Lord. JoAnn treated all who crossed her path with a love and tenderness not to be surpassed. Her family was her greatest blessing with which she acknowledged and thanked God for on a daily basis. A woman who not only counted her blessings, but saw them. She gave a helping hand to all who knew her and a loving mother and grandmother does not even begin to express her true nature. She will be greatly missed. JoAnn is survived by four children, Richard (Kathleen Bennett) Tompkins, Linda (Howard) Matson, Shirley Phelps, and Stephen (Roseanne) Tompkins; 13 grandchildren, Richard, Danielle, David, Haley, Matthew (Megan), Terrance, Joshua, Corrie, Kevin, Charlotte, Timothy, Christopher, and Kelly; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Edward (Viola) Kaiser; a sister, Lorraine Pakkala; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Richard F. Tompkins; and two sisters, Helen Lampher and Jenny Isbell. The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Prayers of Committal will be held in Grove Cemetery. A Reception will follow at the American Legion in Trumansburg.
