This obituary is administered by:
Van Calster, Joanne BarbaraJoanne Barbara (Meggers) Van Calster, 78, of Green Bay passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 25, 1938, to Harry J. and Josephine Mary (Jacquet)Meggers. Joanne graduated from West High School. She met her future husband, Roger, at a wedding and on May 26, 1962, Joanne married him at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Green Bay. Joanne enjoyed many things in her life, especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing her pool with family and friends, she loved to read, feeding and watching the birds to compare sightings with her neighbor, Joanne and cooking, especially the infamous traditional chocolate birthday cake for her family. She truly enjoyed relaxing on the boat where there were no tvs or telephones (or cell phones when she had her way). Traveling throughout Michigan, Canada and Wisconsin with the Green Bay Boating Club was a highlight of her summer activities. Joanne was a member of the Green Bay Coast Guard Auxiliary for 30 years where she was the first elected woman Division Captain for the 09 Division 04 Flotilla from Coast Guard Station Green Bay. Joanne and Roger also led and taught the WisDNR Boating Safety Class for 35 years to over 10,000 students with help from other volunteers. Her Christmas treasure was the lighted 45' chestnut tree in their front yard planted from a seed by her son in kindergarten. It can be seen for blocks and blankets her Howard neighborhood with Christmas cheer. In her honor, it will be lit until her birthday, January 25 and the tradition will continue for years to come.Joanne will be dearly missed by her family and friends, and remembered for her love of family and her willingness to always listen.Joanne is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Paul and Leslie (VanOver) Van Calster and Scott and Sandy (Anderson) Van Calster; sister, June Rifleman; brother-in-law, Andrew Malecki and by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Ashley Van Calster, Jordan Van Calster and Taylor Smeback. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Al Borremans, Edestine and Bernard Dahlin, Ellyn Malecki, and Richard Rifleman.Visitation and the funeral will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, at 514 S. Clay Street Green Bay on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 12:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Rose officiating.
