Joanne E. MitchellJoanne E. Mitchell met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 6, 2014. She was born on February 16, 1929, in Omak, Washington, to Lola Mayhood Corum and Lester L. Corum. The Corum family moved to the Kittitas Valley where Joanne attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. There she met Glen "Junior" Mitchell. The Corum family returned to Okanogan County, while Joanne remained in Ellensburg to complete High School, living with her Aunt Maggie Corum. She stayed in Ellensburg and awaited Junior's return from his military service during World War II. She and Junior were married in July, 1947.Joanne worked at Buttons Jewelry, then the Montgomery Ward's catalog store in Ellensburg. She quit work when her first child, Nancy, was born. She returned to work and began her career at Central Washington State College, at the Registrar's Office and from then held various positions at Central. After her second child Dean was born, she returned to work at Central. Her final child Trish was born and she continued working at Central in the Academic Affairs Office. She retired after 30 years of service at Central. She was very proud of her accomplishments while working at Central Washington University.Joanne enjoyed traveling and took a number of trips to Europe as well as to the East Coast. However, her most fond and memorable trips occurred when she took her grandchildren to Cannon Beach. Joanne was a long time and active member of the Christian Missionary Alliance/Mercer Creek Church, and supportive of both the youth and mission programs. Joanne is survived by her husband, Glen Junior, of Yakima, daughters Nancy Brulotte of Zillah, Patricia Brown of Ferndale, son Dean of Moses Lake, sister Lila Breshears of Yakima, brothers Loren of Spokane, Tom of Tonasket, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Joanne was preceded in death by her sister, Delnora, sister in-law, Helen, and both parents. A memorial service will be held February 8th, at 10:00 AM, at the Mercer Creek Church at 1407 North 'B' Street, in Ellensburg.
