May 23, 1929 - Jan 06, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Joanne Rae Hatfield Age 87, went home to be with the Lord in Bellevue, WA on Sunday, November 6, 2016. She was born on May 23, 1929 in Kansas City, KS to Glenn H. and Dorothy R. Jones. Joanne attended Shawnee Mission High School, graduating in 1947. As a beautiful, feisty young woman one of her first jobs right out of high school was a dress model for a dressmaker. In 1949 she married Robert Hatfield, and they settled in Kansas City, KS and raised a family. They moved to Federal Way, WA in 1965 when Bob took a job with Boeing. Joanne was a devoted wife and mother, raising four children, as well as a devoted church member at Steel Lake Presbyterian Church. She served the Lord in many capacities at the church, including working as the church secretary. She also sang in the church choir and was a frequent soloist. Her love of music was passed on to all of her children, who also sang in choirs and/or played musical instruments. In the early 90's Joanne and Bob built their retirement home in Graham, WA, where Joanne enjoyed her dream view of Mt. Rainier. Joanne and Bob were members of the Evergreen Church in Graham, WA, where she was an Elder and Deacon, also sang in the choir well into her 70's, and helped organize the "lunch bunch" Bible study group. They volunteered their time distributing Bibles with Gideon International, and distributing school supplies with the Boeing retiree "Bluebills" service organization. Joanne was an avid sports fan and loved watching her favorite Seattle teams: the Mariners, Seahawks and the Huskies. Joanne was preceded in death by Robert (September 14, 2004). She is survived by her brother Glenn H. Jones Jr., her sister Judi Carpenter and brother-in-law Gerald Carpenter, her daughter Deborah J. Ivy and son-in-law Jerry Ivy, her son Robert L. "Bud" Hatfield, Jr. and daughter-in-law Fran Hatfield, son J. Michael Hatfield and daughter-in-law April Hatfield, and son Jeffrey D. Hatfield and daughter-in-law Joan Hatfield. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who have been a tremendous blessing to her. The night before her death, Joanne told her family, "I've had a wonderful life. I have a wonderful family. What more could I ask for?" A memorial service to celebrate Joanne's life will be held at Evergreen Church in Graham, WA at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 13. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joanne's name to the Tacoma Rescue Mission.
