Joanne Irvin DavisJoanne Elizabeth Davis passed away from complications of a heart attack on October 16, 2016, in Tacoma, Washington. Joanne was born on March 20, 1931, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Harry Walker Irvin and Elizabeth Alice McCartney. After living in Ohio and Colorado, the family moved to Washington state where Joanne graduated from Bellingham High School in 1948. She graduated from (then) Western Washington State College in 1952 with a degree in education, briefly teaching math and science in Bellevue, Washington. She married Don Allen Davis in 1953. She and Don raised their sons Robert Allen and Michael Bruce Davis in Georgia, Los Angeles and Seattle. Joanne and Don later divorced.In the mid-1970s Joanne returned to college, earning a Master of Science in water quality management from the University of Washington in 1976. She applied her background in aquatic biology to water quality work at King County Metro (later Water and Land Resources) into the 1990s.Joanne had a lifelong interest in outdoor recreation and travel. She climbed Mt. Shuksan, was an avid skier, backpacker and cyclist, photographer and traveled worldwide, visiting countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. She was widely appreciated for her intellect, wit and grace. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Laura Steinmann, and her sons Robert and Lawrence. Joanne is survived by her son, Michael (Chris), grand-daughter Elizabeth (Sean Neery), nieces Lisa Charnock (Doug) and Linda Eschels (Curt), and several grand-nieces and -nephews.Plans for a memorial will be announced at a later time.
