SHAFFERJoanne V. Joanne V. Shaffer, 89, of North Baltimore, died at 1:20 p.m., Friday, December 2, 2016, at Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore. She was born on July 6, 1927, in Toledo. She married Donald L. Shaffer on July 12, 1947, and he preceded her in death on April 12, 2009.Joanne is survived by her daughters, Jill Guy of North Baltimore, Jan (Richard) Stein of Custar and JoLynn Shaffer of Tiffin; her grandsons, Nicholas (Heather) Guy of Sarasota, FL, Joel (Alicia) Stein of Hickory, NC and Adam (Jody) Stein of Custar; her great-granddaughters, Reese Catherine Guy, Riley Joanne Guy and Abigail James Stein.She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Leota (Hoffsis) Urban.Joanne was a 1945 graduate of North Baltimore High School and formerly worked for the North Baltimore News. She was a faithful member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Baltimore, where she was active in the Church Women's Group. She was also a member of North Baltimore American Legion Post 539 Auxiliary.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Baltimore with Pastor Ralph Mineo officiating. Burial will be in New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Smith-Crates Funeral Home, North Baltimore, and 1 hour (10-11 a.m.) prior to the service at church.It was Joanne's wish to have memorial contributions made to the St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church Improvement Fund.
