XENIA — Joe F. Skinner, age 80, of Xenia, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016. He was born on May 16, 1936 in Dover, TN, the son of James and Lovie (Shamell) Skinner. He was preceded in death by a son: Mark Alan Skinner, Sr.; oldest brother: Lowery Skinner and oldest sister: Wyoma Eldridge. He is survived by his wife, Edith (McGee) Skinner; daughter, Wendy Odom of Columbus; grandson: Mark Skinner Jr. (Nyjeri Taylor) and great grandson: Messiah; brothers: Jasper (Geraldine) Skinner of Xenia and Prentice (Rebecca) Skinner of Dover, TN; sister: Annette (Clifton Jr.) Shamwell of Clarksville, TN; special extended family, Karen and Robert Murphy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joe served in the US Army. He retired from the National Museum of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Bethel Temple Church, where he served as Deacon. Joe graduated from Burt High School in Clarksville, TN and graduate of Central State University, where he had a double major in both History and Political Science. Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Bethel Temple Church, 914 E 3rd St. Xenia with Suff. Bishop Marvin Graves officiating. He will be interred with military honors at the National Cemetery, Dayton. Visitation will be held 11:30 AM Tuesday until the time of service at the church.
