John Kevin Balkey, 66, of Fredericksburg, VA peacefully passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024.
Kevin was born on March 20, 1957, son of Helen Zubovich and John Gilbert Balkey in Lawrence, Pennsylvania. Youngest son of two.
From 1969 to 1973 he enlisted in the Boy Scouts of America Troop 124 in Norton, OH. After graduating from Norton High School (Norton, Ohio) in 1975 at 18 years of age, Kevin enlisted in the Air Force. He valued this service highly and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant.
After retiring from the military, Kevin transitioned into a successful career working as a budget analyst in the Air Force. He developed lifelong friendships while working for SAF/AA and mentored everyone that was lucky enough to cross paths with him.
He met José, and they wed in 2015. After retiring in 2018, Kevin and José spent time together traveling, serving others, and enjoying everything life had to offer.
Together they fought to be happy and overcome all obstacles, they taught each other that true love does exist with the right person.
Kevin’s loved ones will remember his affinity for Cho-Cho and Margarita (his beloved chihuahuas), his fierce loyalty to his friends, love of country, quick wit, sense of humor, passion for music, and being a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Kevin is survived by his loving husband, José; his son, Jason; his daughter, Jeni; two grandkids, Kamden and Devin; his brother, Bruce; his cousin, Pam; and great-niece, Megan.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
