John Edwards, 90, of Gadsden, Alabama, passed Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Loyola Hospital, where he informed doctors that he was ready to go home.
John was born May 24, 1937, to the late George and Ollie Mae Edwards. John accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church in Alabama, under Pastor Rev. Jimerson. He rededicated his life and united with Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, under Pastor Marvin Wiley.
John was educated in the Alabama school systems. After completion, John moved himself and his wife (Alberta) to Maywood, Illinois where he worked for United States Postal Service, until his retirement.
The warmth and love that John had for his family and friends will be missed, one of his greatest joys was sitting and watching Sunday night football with his granddaughter “Marie”.
John was preceded in death by his Dad George Edwards, mother Ollie Edwards, a sister Lynne (Williams), a brother Freddie Lee Gilmore.
Mourning his departure, yet cherishing his memories are: his wife, Alberta Edwards; daughters: Vercye (Barnett), LiTanya (Stovall), Sharon (Slack), Regina Edwards, son: Glenn Edwards; sisters, JoAnne (Crenshaw), grandchildren; Nikida Cooper, LaVonda “Marie” Hall, Shianna Haynes, Deontae Holman, Reginald Dodson, Randall Dodson; 8 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
