John was born on June 1st, 1940 in Ossining, New York. He passed away on October 15th, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He had fought a great fight against mucosal melanoma. John's father, Abbott V. Howe passed away when John was just 7 years old. His loving mother, Frances G. Howe and grandmother Lisbeth L. Garrison raised him. John served in the Air Force from 1957 - 1962. He boarded a train in Hoboken, New Jersey at the age of 17 with $20.00 in his pocket on his way to Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. John met his one true love, Carol (Stevenson) while stationed at Beale Air Force Base in Marysville, California. They married July 17, 1961 in Carson City, Nevada. Together they had a son, Gregory and a daughter Darla. John and his business partner founded D&H Transportation in Yuba City in 1974 with 2 trucks. He and his partner grew the company to over 50 trucks. John was extremely proud of D&H Transportation. He sold the company to his son Greg in 2014. John was an avid golfer. He golfed all over the world and golfed well. Most Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays you could find him at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club golfing with his friends. He was a huge fan of the SF Giants, Sacramento Kings and Marysville Gold Sox. Most of all John loved his family. Having lost his father at such a young age it was extremely important to him that his family was well taken care of. To do this he often would work 2 jobs. John was a successful self-made man. John is survived by his wife, Carol Howe of Yuba City; son Gregory A. Howe (Rhonda) of Yuba City; daughter Darla Howe Shelton (Phil) of Yuba City; grandson Kurtis A. Howe of Orland and brother Bill L. Howe (Leslie) of Marshfield, VT. He is preceded in death by his father Abbott V. Howe (1947) and mother Frances G. Howe (1998). Services will be conducted on Saturday, October 22nd, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be at the Chapel on Friday, October 21st, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
