John Anthony SchiavoneVenturaJohn Anthony Schiavone was born on October 7, 1921 in Herkimer, New York. His parent emigrated from Italy at the beginning of the twenty-first century. He served in the Army during WWII in the European Theatre.After military service, he moved to California and attended Woodbury College. He married Angelina Franchino on January 31, 1948. Upon graduation from college he joined the California State Board of Equalization as an auditor.He and Angie moved to Ventura in 1952. They joined Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church as soon as it opened in 1954. John served as an usher at the Church for over fifty years. He was a lifelong active member in the Knights of Columbus San Buenaventura Council #2498. He served as Grand Knight and was a member of the "Super Cooks" for many years. He was also a long-term member of the Elks and the Oddfellows.He loved sports, especially baseball. He was a Dodgers and Angel's fan. He was an avid golfer and played regularly until his death.John was a family man; his family being the most important part of his life. He is survived by Angie, his wife of 69 years; his daughter Carmen Schiavone and her husband Rob Melrose, his daughter Ann Elliott and her husband, Chuck. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that were a great joy to him.The family would like to thank the medical offices of Dr. John Handley and Dr. Robert Moffatt for their many years of helpful care and service.A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 29, 2017 at 11am in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ventura. Viewing will precede the Mass.A reception will be held after the Mass at the Elks Lodge: 2126 Knoll Drive, Ventura. Interment will be Friday June 30, 2017 in San Fernando Mission Cemetery at 2pm.Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME, Ventura.
